Bastard Out of Carolina

After finishing my first reading book I am definitely even more disgusted at the idea of child abuse than I was before. I have a feeling that it is going to keep getting worse with every book I read. The ending of this book just made my want to go punch one of the characters in the face. Now, obviously she is not real but I am sure there are people out there that make the same mistakes as her. You would think that I would be madder at the character that was abusing the child, but that is not the case. The child’s mother is actually the one that I want to punch in the face (obviously the abuser too). The mother walks in on her daughter getting abused the worst it has ever been and she takes her to the hospital but then leaves her child for her husband, the man abusing her daughter. This makes me so incredibly angry. How could you love someone that raped and beat your child? And how could you leave you child for anything? It also makes me wonder how authors think of these things. The fact that the author dedicated the book to her mother who has the same name as the main character is also interesting and makes me think that maybe she was abused, which makes me want to throw up.
