I enjoy reading The
Road for the most part. It started to get a little repetitive but tonight’s
reading was a lot more interesting. I gore doesn’t bother me at all and it is
not as bad as it was going to be. When we were talking about it in class I thought
it was going to be a lot worse. I don’t mind his reading style at all, I
actually kind of like it. I don’t really notice it much when I am reading
because it just makes sense with the way that I think. However, I do have a
problem with the characters in the book, mainly the dad. I think he is very
selfish and kind of dumb. I don’t understand why anyone would want to live like
that when they have nothing to look forward to. They are trying to get south,
but for what? It is still going to be a struggle to survive down there. And it
is cruel to make your son live through the misery. It may be hard to kill him
but if the dad believes in heaven then he should want to be in a better place.
It just doesn’t make sense to me because they are suffering for what? For nothing.
