I will be the first to admit that I use the phrase “I’m a
bad speller” and I realize this may sound ridiculous to some people but I don’t
think that it is a false statement. Just like some kids are talented at sports
and some are not. Obviously those kids that are bad at sports and practice and
potentially be good, but sometimes certain things just don’t come naturally,
and spelling, or anything to do with English, does not come naturally to me. I will also admit that I am very hypocritical
of this situation because I do judge people who have poor grammar but then I have
to remind myself that mine is nowhere near perfect. There is a lot of pressure
on spelling which sometimes seems a little unnecessary. The fact that people
get judged on how smart they are based on their spelling would be a little
crazy. Don’t get me wrong though, the “creative spelling” that some schools are
doing is a load of poop, but I do think in certain situations it shouldn’t matter.
I also blame the school that I went to for my bad spelling because it seems
like (and this is totally not actually true) that everyone who went there is a
bad speller. I guess we just didn’t focus on it very much and I am far too lazy
to start now. I’m kind of an awful person (:
