Outside Reading Choices
For my outside reading this semester I chose The Bonesetter's Daughter. I have only read a few pages so far but I think I'm going to like it. Last weekend I decided I would just go to Joseph Beth and get all three of my books for this semester. It was hard to choose what I wanted to read because I like to enjoy what I read, otherwise I put it off too long. I chose this one because it has a lot to deal with family issues, which I can relate to a lot. We discussed in class how people only like to read books that they can relate to, and I agree and disagree at the same time. I like to read books that I relate to but I don't think I am stuck up about it, I'll read other ones too. It's just easier, when you are given a big list of books, to choose the ones that you feel you can relate to. I am also a sucker for love stories so I chose at least one of those as well.

I like being pushed out of my comfort zone by reading books that I may not have considered before, but I also like to read love and crime stories. I suppose I also agree and disagree that people choose books that they relate to.
ReplyDeleteI also agree and disagree with people only reading books they can relate to. I often find myself reading books about teenagers with problems, or people going through life-changing times, but I also like to push myself and read something that is more literary or is different than what I normally read. If people just read the same types of books all the time, they would end up closing themselves off to the wonderful literature that is all around them.
